Ms. Judy Swystun was appointed to the ODU Board of Visitors on July 1, 2012.
Ms. Swystun has been involved in the taxicab industry for more than 30 years. Currently, she is president of both Black and White Cabs in Norfolk, Virginia, and Black and White Cabs of Virginia Beach. In these roles she is responsible for providing overall leadership and guidance for the companies, as well as fostering greater awaren ess of the taxicab industry in the business community.
In 2004, Ms. Swystun served as president of the Taxicab, Limousine and Paratransit Association (TLPA). The TLPA is the leading trade association for ground transportation internationally, serving more than 1000 members in 13 countries. Ms. Swystun is an active board member of the TLPA and serves on the Taxicab Steering Committee and the Women In Transportation Committee. Ms. Swystun is also an active member of the Virginia Taxicab Association (VTA). She has served as the VTA's president and has been a member of the board of directors for several terms.
Ms. Swystun is active in the Hampton Roads business community and is directly involved with several business and civic organizations. She has served as the past president of the Norfolk Convention and Visitor's Bureau, and she is currently a regional board member of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, and an active participant in the Five Points Partnership and the Norview Task Force.
A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Ms. Swystun graduated from Mercer University. She is married and has two children.
