Back in 1997, Martin Smith-Rodden and his wife, Pam, had two small children, good jobs at The Virginian-Pilot newspaper and a home they owned on the water in Portsmouth. But something was missing, he says: He had no college degree.

CARE Now Program Helps Ease Transition to Middle and High School for Disadvantaged Students
The Darden College of Education's CARE Now program continues to work as a successful platform, offering an opportunity for ODU undergraduate and graduate students in the counseling and human services and human movement sciences departments to gain valuable field placement, practicum and internship experience in local public schools. In turn, the program is helping produce positive results in many of the young lives these students touch.
Across Campus: A Photo Essay
The campus is becoming more deserted by the day, but students could be found early in the week studying for final exams. It's a particularly intense time for faculty as well, and a very busy time for the Office of Development, which will be processing end-of-year gifts to the university over the coming weeks. The office's accounting staff did some holiday decorating recently to help ease the work ahead.
