University Program to Donate Students' Unwanted Items to Charity
In addition to the free document shredding and electronic recycling services it is offering this week, Old Dominion's Recoverable Resources staff is encouraging students to donate, rather than throw away, items accumulated over the academic year for recycling and reuse - everything from clothing and food to bicycles.
From April 26 through May 10, donation areas will be set up in the central area or lobby of every residence hall, where residents can bring items they "don't want, can't believe they own or simply don't have room for in their car." These materials will be picked up, sorted into categories and donated to the Samaritan House, Goodwill Industries, Habitat for Humanity, Union Mission Ministries and the Salvation Army.
ODU also is now accepting bicycle donations. Students can either "recycle their cycles" at the Recycling Center, 861 W. 45th St., or donate their unwanted bicycle to the Student Recreation Center's bike share program. Bikes can be dropped off at the SRC or the Recycling Center.
Bicycles left on campus during the summer months will be considered abandoned. They will be collected and donated to charity or recycled.
