ODU to Host Norfolk SPCA Dog Walk Fundraiser June 7

On June 7, Old Dominion University will host the 32nd annual Norfolk SPCA Dog Walk, a fundraising event that helps support the organization's no-kill shelter.

The event will be held on ODU's Kaufmann Mall and feature dog-related contests and demonstrations, live entertainment, vendors, rescue groups and raffles, in addition to a one-mile walk around the university's Norfolk campus.

It is scheduled to take place rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, the dog walk will be cancelled.

The Norfolk Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was established in 1892, making it one of the oldest animal welfare organizations in the country. According to the organization's website, it was originally founded due to concerns about the mistreatment of workhorses and now "shelters, treats, rehabilitates and re-homes household companion animals throughout Hampton Roads to give them the extra time and care needed to find that forever home."

Registration for the NSPCA event begins at 9 a.m. and the dog walk is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m.
