ODU Athletic Trainer Scott Johnson Recipient of National Award
Old Dominion University Associate Athletic Trainer Scott Johnson was recently awarded the National Athletic Trainers' Association's 2014 Athletic Trainer Service Award, which was presented to him at the organization's national convention in Indianapolis, IN.
Earlier this year, he was awarded the Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainer's Association (MAATA) service award.
The Athletic Trainer Service award recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession as a volunteer at the local and state levels. ATSA recipients have been involved in professional associations, community organizations, grassroots public relations efforts and service as a volunteer athletic trainer.
Johnson has been at Old Dominion University for 26 years, 19 as an assistant athletic trainer and seven as an associate athletic trainer. He served as the men's basketball athletic trainer for 19 years. He is currently a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Virginia Athletic Trainers Association. In May of 2008, Johnson was named Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year by the College and University Athletic Trainers Committee of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
Johnson graduated from Bridgewater State College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He earned a master's of science degree in education from ODU in 1987. Scott and his wife Elena, who is a 1991 graduate of ODU, have two sons, Andrew and Michael.
