Additional details about each session:

VS and Broadcast: Course Administration

The Center for Learning and Teaching invites you to a workshop designed to offer you guidance for managing the administrative details of your broadcast course.  You’ll learn about real-time broadcast delivery to your students watching you at sites via TV, and about the video streaming (VS) component of your LIVE course, as well as about the recorded archive that is available via asynchronous videostream to all of your students.

The COURSE ADMINISTRATION topic will cover: Web resources, bookstore services, materials distribution, testing and student assessment, course roster, grade distribution, course evaluation, and orientations to the extended campus classroom site directors and their roles, the extended syllabus design, and copyright and fair use.

The ENGAGING DISTANCE STUDENTS topic will cover interaction and collaboration with and among students; using the tools available in the classroom; and viewing your lectures. For guidelines and tips about preparing your slideshows and other materials for this delivery mode, please register for the companion workshop: VS and Broadcast: Engaging Distance Learning Students.

VS and Broadcast:
Engaging Distance Learning Students

Engaging distance students involves engaging those in the classroom, those at remote sites, and those attending through video streaming.  Strategies for student interaction and collaboration, techniques for creating community and collegial discussion, and preparation and presentation of visuals for broadcast and video streaming courses will be discussed, in order to assist you in teaching on camera.

Topics for discussion in this ENGAGING DISTANCE STUDENTS workshop include:  Interaction, Collaboration, Assessment, and Presentation.  Presentation strategies and techniques will entail presentation of the instructor, presentation of real objects, presentation of slides and video materials, presentation of hand-written materials (blue pads), and the effect of movement.  A portion of the workshop will be dedicated to hands-on practice with PowerPoint, utilizing guidelines for design and development which will help ensure clarity, legibility, and presentation of content in interesting ways.

The COURSE ADMINISTRATION (a separate workshop) topic will cover: Web resources, bookstore services, materials distribution, testing and student assessment, course roster, grade distribution, course evaluation, and orientations to the extended campus classroom site directors and their roles, the extended syllabus design, and copyright and fair use.
