Consumer expectations have risen to very high levels.&nbsp; Innovation drives new product development, customer acceptance, loyalty and organizational vitality. Entrepreneurship, innovation, and intrapreneurship have accelerated the need for large technical enterprises to become more thoughtful, more agile, more flexible and more responsive to consumer demands.&nbsp;&nbsp; In addition, the expansion of communications technology and social media allow many people across the world access to markets and create businesses.</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> Government agencies are not exempt from this trend:&nbsp; U.S. Government agencies are now required to establish strategic plans for their enterprises, to develop business plans that illustrate the future directions of the enterprise, and to define the resources required to realize the vision and strategy of the enterprise.&nbsp;</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> This workshop will briefly address the characteristics of the entrepreneur, the myths surrounding entrepreneurship and some thoughts and discussion about the pitfalls and enablers the entrepreneurs face.</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> Bio:</p> <p> Dr. Charles B. Daniels is a Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department in the Batten College of Engineering and Technology of the Old Dominion University. He earned a Ph.D. in Engineering Management from the Old Dominion University, a Master of Engineering Management (MEM) from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York.&nbsp;</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> Dr. Daniels has over 40 years of experience in organizational management and leadership, communications systems, information systems, management consulting, change management, employee and leadership development and quality improvement in both government and commercial enterprises. He has over 30 years of experience in program management for large scale, mission-critical systems; system development lifecycle analysis; planning and implementation; systems engineering; line management and engineering; culture change and management consulting.&nbsp;&nbsp; He has also served as a senior executive and Vice President for Engineering for a Fortune 500 commercial enterprise with several major Defense and Aerospace Companies and has managed large, complex technical enterprises with over 600 employees and over $100 million in annual revenues.</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> He has supported NASA Human Space Flight, Science and Aeronautics Research programs for over 25 years at the Goddard Space Flight Center, the Johnson Space Center, the Langley Research Center, the Ames Research Center, the Marshall Space Flight Center and the Jet Propulsion Lab.&nbsp; Dr. Daniels also played a key role as a contractor executive in the design, development and implementation of several U.S. national criminal justice information systems implemented by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), including the Automated Integrated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> Dr. Daniels is the founder of the ConITS Leadership Institute. In addition, Dr. Daniels is has been a lecturer in the George Washington University Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Graduate Program and the Florida Institute of Technology Graduate Engineering Management programs and the California Institute of Technology at Irvine.</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> He has extensive experience in assisting organizations in developing and implementing plans to achieve business excellence and culture change. He served as a member of the Board of Senior Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), as well as a Professional Engineer Manager and is certified to administrate, facilitate and coach using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Bar-On EQ from Multi-Health Systems (MHS) Inc., Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior (FIRO-B) assessments. He is also an entrepreneur who has started and led several successful professional services firms.</p>
