Facilities Management Celebrates Earth Day

<p> Facilities Management Recycling Department&nbsp;offers the service of&nbsp;confidential document shredding to businesses and residents of our campus community. The paper shredding program is staffed&nbsp;by Facilities Management personnel and carried out with secure transfer and processing.</p> <ul> <li> <strong>On Earth Day April 22, 2014 everyone is</strong> asked to bring their documents to the Support Service Division&#39;s Recycling Facility at 861 West 45<sup>th</sup> Street off Killam Avenue on campus.&nbsp;</li> <li> Making disposal&nbsp;simple for the customer, the recycling department will have a pick-up service available for the campus community. Please call us (683-3005) or e-mail us (<a href="mailto:hlogan@odu.edu">hlogan@odu.edu</a>)&nbsp; for your convenience.</li> <li> Staples, binder clips and metal clips may be left on the documents. After the paper is shredded, it is bundled for reuse in the paper recycling industry.</li> </ul> <p> <strong>Document shredding: what should you shred, and when should you shred&nbsp;it?</strong></p> <p> You hear advice all the time that you should shred sensitive documents to reduce your risk of identity theft. However, what exactly are &ldquo;sensitive documents,&rdquo; and are there some you should keep for a while before destroying them?</p> <p> <strong>What documents should&nbsp;I shred?</strong></p> <p> In general, you should shred documents that contain any of the following:</p> <ul> <li> Account numbers</li> <li> Passwords</li> <li> PINs</li> <li> Signatures</li> <li> Social Security number</li> <li> Date of birth</li> </ul> <p> SHRED IT!!!!!!!!!</p>
