The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a four-year undergraduate program leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
The degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012 - telephone: (410) 347-7700. The undergraduate degree in civil engineering prepares graduates for entry into professional practice and continued intellectual and professional development throughout their career.
Graduates are prepared for professional careers in civil or environmental engineering or related fields. The BSCE degree is recognized as pre-Law, pre-Medicine, and pre-MBA at many professional schools and universities.
Additional Program Information
In this rapidly, changing technological world, graduate degrees are highly desirable and most often master's degrees are required to hold professional civil and environmental engineering positions in the industry, and in federal, in state and municipal government agencies. The department's graduate programs are designed to educate the technological leaders of the future in civil and environmental engineering, and are structured to accommodate both full-time and part-time students. The specialty areas include: coastal, geotechnical, structural, transportation and water resources engineering in civil engineering, and sub-fields in environmental engineering including water quality, water and wastewater treatment, hydrologic processes, water resources, environmental engineering microbiology, air quality, hazardous and solid waste, and pollution control prevention.
The CEE graduate programs have about 100 students and are structured to accommodate both the full-time and part-time students. Most of the graduate courses are offered in the evenings and many are offered as televised and video-streamed courses. The available specialty areas are coastal, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering in Civil engineering and a variety of sub-fields in Environmental engineering.
