Advance YOUR career as cybersecurity professional with Old Dominion University and Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center (SWVHEC). The ODU & SWVHEC Cisco Networking & Cybersecurity Academy program focuses on ways to increase the education and skill levels of the region's labor pools, as a method to attract and retain employers. Objectives for this funding are to enhance workforce readiness through support for proven and/or innovative programs, and to focus on "gaps" between education supply and occupational demand with emphasis on post-secondary STEM-H and advanced manufacturing career skills.

The ODU & SWVHEC Cisco Networking & Cybersecurity Academy addresses Cybersecurity, one of Governor McAuliffe's top priorities and a key component of the New Virginia Economy. In today's information-driven and hyper-connected society, cybersecurity is an important issue for economic growth and stability across all types of industry sectors, especially those in Southwest Virginia's key industry sectors of Manufacturing, Agriculture, Warehousing/Distribution, Heath Care, Energy, and Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services.

Program Background:

Cyber Security is one of Governor McAuliffe's top priorities and a key component of the New Virginia Economy. A recent report by the Business Higher Education Forum indicates that Virginia has the second highest concentration of cyber job postings behind California. Within the DC, Maryland, Virginia region, there were over 33,000 cyber security openings. Old Dominion University and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center plan to offer a high quality curriculum that combines in-depth technical training and professional skills development covering a variety of disciplines including networking, virtualization, storage and cyber security. Localities will directly benefit by the development and delivery of this customized program that will address high need areas, as identified by community partners in business, manufacturing, health care, finance and education.

Program Certifications:

CISCO Certifications provided will be: CompTIA A+ (Entry-level Certification), Cisco CCENT (Entry-level Certification), Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching (Mid-Level Certification), Cisco CCNA Security (Mid-level Certification), Cisco CCNP Routing and Switching (High-level Certification), CompTIA ALinux+ (Mid-level Certification), C++ Certified Associate Programmer (Mid-level Certification).

To increase the effectiveness and quality of this curriculum as well as extending the IT classroom to the cloud where students can access a portal with all the software and hardware, we will be utilizing NETLAB+ Virtual Edition.

This will allow us to offer VNware v6 ICM, VMware v6 O&S, Red Hat System Administration v7, NDG Forensics, NDG Ethical Hacking, NISGTC Linux+, NISGTC Python Security and NISGTC Security+. We will also offer Cisco CCNA Security certification.
