  • Dr. Michaeli received her BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture in 1998, MS in Ocean Systems Management in 1999 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2010 from Old Dominion University. Dr. Michaeli is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology Department, Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA. Prior to joining ODU in 2013, Dr. Michaeli spent ten years in the Department of Defense and three years in private industry as a Naval Architect and Program Manager where she carried out design and engineering, construction oversight and testing of advanced marine vehicles and new technologies for the US and Foreign Naval Forces. At ODU, Dr. Michaeli leads the Marine Engineering Systems Specialty in the Department of Engineering Technology and the Marine Engineering Minor for the Batten College of Engineering and Technology. Dr. Michaeli's research and teaching interests include topics concerning naval architecture; marine engineering; design, manufacturing and testing of composites and lightweight structures, and engineering decision tools. Dr. Michaeli is a Registered Professional Engineer in Virginia and actively consults to the marine industry.
