  • Laurie Craigen is an associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Services. She received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the College of William and Mary. Laurie’s area of research is on the topic of self-injury, trauma, and the socio-emotional needs of military connected children. Laurie has published 18 peer-reviewed articles over the past 5 years, she is the Vice President of Regional Development for the National Organization of Human Services, and an associate editor of the Journal of Human Services. Laurie is also a member of the Military Suicide Research Consortium and is the principal investigator on Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) grant in collaboration with the Newport News Public Schools entitled, Boosting students’ mathematics achievement and promoting positive social connections for military connected families at targeted Newport News Public Schools. She is also a co-investigator on an additional DODEA grant entitled, Supporting Military Connected Students: Academic and Personal Social Considerations with the Virginia Beach Public Schools. On both grants, she works with colleague, Kathleen Levingston. Laurie is also a recent recipient of the QEP action project grant for the 2013-2014 academic year along with colleagues Narketta Sparkman and Jill Dustin.
