Dr. Leigh Butler, assistant dean for Teacher Education Services in the Darden College of Education, has been awarded Certificate of Merit of the Outstanding Advising Award - Academic Advising Administrator by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Established in 1983, the NACADA Annual Awards Program for Academic Advising honors individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising.
Dr. Butler joined Old Dominion University as the Director of Teacher Education Services in June 2001. She received the award for Teletechnet Teacher of the Year in 2000-2001 and the Worth Pickering University Administrator of the Year Award in 2008 - 2009. In 2010, Dr. Butler was appointed the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education Services and Advising in the fall, 2011. She has served on thenumerous committees while at Old Dominion University. She is currently the chairperson of the Teacher Education Council and she is the editor for Virginia's Association of Teacher Educators (ATE-VA) journal, The Teacher Educators' Journal (2011 - present).
NACADA is a representative and advocate of academic advising of those providing that service to higher education. "I am humbled and appreciate the nomination from my colleagues and all their work to make this happen," says Dr. Butler. She will receive the award at the NACADA's national meeting in October in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
