Department ofMusic

At Old Dominion University, music students have the resources of a large university from which to draw to enhance the close, supportive relationships built within the Department of Music. Outstanding musician-scholar-teachers provide a rich, challenging and creative environment in which students may pursue their educational dreams and aspirations. The Department of Music consists of award-winning faculty who are nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their fields. Several faculty serve as principal musicians with the Virginia Symphony and the Virginia Opera and are established teacher-performers in the Hampton Roads area and beyond.

The Department of Music is housed in the F. Ludwig Diehn Center for the Performing Arts. In 2014, Old Dominion University opened a new addition to the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts. See the Department of Music Facilities page for complete details about the new building addition.

Admission to all Department of Music undergraduate degree programs except the Bachelor of Arts requires a Performance Audition and the Theory Placement Exam. Bachelor of Arts students must take the Theory Placement Exam and are encouraged to complete the Performance Audition.

The ODU Department of Music has been an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1978, and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Audition dates to begin a music degree in the fall semester of 2015:

Nov 15, 2014; January 10, February 16, March 28 and April 29, 2015
