Papers Due April 23 for National Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education
April 16, 2012
The deadline is approaching to submit papers for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) annual conference in Los Angeles, Oct. 14-17.
What innovation, activity, framework, learning outcome or leadership initiative will you share that changes the face of sustainability on campus? The deadline for abstract presentations for AASHE 2012 is April 23.
In 2011, Old Dominion University was recognized for its sustainability efforts with a STARS "charter participant" designation from AASHE, signifying ODU's efforts to set and meet sustainability goals, while fostering collaboration and information-sharing across campus. Among the initiatives launched in the past year is a partnership with Glad, the maker of storage containers and trash bags, to sort and track waste generated in tailgate parking lots at ODU football games this fall.
AASHE 2012: Investing in the Future will draw together campus representatives - from faculty to sustainability officers, and presidents to students - to examine the complexity and challenges of sustainability within urban, suburban, rural and international campuses, along with the collaboration necessary to approach the campus as a living, learning laboratory for sustainability education.
As an important part of the conference, the 2012 AASHE Student Summit: Engaging the Future will encompass a full day of peer-to-peer presentations, workshops and facilitated networking opportunities. Students from all levels of higher education are encouraged to submit abstracts for the summit.
Presentations submitted with a core focus on social justice and diversity, affordability and access, and arts and culture will receive special consideration.
For information about submitting an abstract to the conference, see the conference website at http://conf2012.aashe.org/, or contact Krista Harrell-Blair, an ODU doctoral student in higher education administration, and campus sustainability coordinator for the STARS initiative, at kharrell@odu.edu.
