September 23, 2013
Old Dominion University's Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative (CCSLRI) and Office of Intercultural Relations are sponsoring a screening of the documentary "Thin Ice: the Inside Story of Climate Science" on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 6-9 p.m. in North Cafeteria at Webb Hall.
Members of the ODU community and the wider public are invited to this free screening, and participants will have the opportunity to discuss the film along with a panel of experts.
After a brief introduction explaining the work of the CCSLRI, the film will provide evidence that the climate is changing rapidly, and emphasize the possibility that climate model predictions are underestimating the full extent of the climate change.
After the screening, a panel discussion will provide the opportunity for the audience to enaged in a discussion with experts from a range of fields. The panel members will include social scientists, city representatives and local citizens. Confirmed panel members include: David Earnest, ODU associate professor of political science; Alicia Philips of ODU's Office of Intercultural Relations; Denise Thompson, environmental protection programs manager for the city of Norfolk; and Hans-Peter Plag, co-director of CCSLRI, who will serve as panel chair.
