ODU Peninsula Workforce Development Center Hosting Open House March 27

Old Dominion University's Peninsula Workforce Development Center in Hampton will host a Technology Showcase, featuring interactive technology demonstrations and facility tours, on Thursday, March 27.

ODU's Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology's Department of Modeling, Simulation and Visualization Engineering will also give short presentations.

The event will be in Rooms 1301-1303, on the first floor of the Workforce Development Center, at 600 Butler Farm Road in Hampton. It is free and open to the public. Email phec@odu.edu for more information.

Visitors will see how the latest immersive 3-D learning, virtual holography, augmented reality glasses, advanced interfaces and telepresence robotic technologies are changing how society learns, teaches, trains and does business.

The daylong event will feature displays by VGo, Emotiv, EON Reality, ODU's Center for Advanced Engineering Environments (CAEE) and Thomas Nelson Community College.

Ahmed Noor, ODU professor of engineering and CAEE director, will lead demonstrations of the center's research into advanced learning environments and networks.

Since 2001, CAEE researchers have worked closely with researchers from NASA, other universities and major software vendors to incorporate new developments into commercial systems, making research advances available to industry in a timely manner.

The Peninsula Workforce Development Center is a state-of-the-art academic facility aligned with ODU's mission to promote the advancement of knowledge. The center supports a wide array of graduate and undergraduate training and academic programs that meet the needs of the local community.

The center is also home to CAEE and the Virginia Space Grant Consortium.
