APPOINTMENTS
NINA BROWN, professor and Eminent Scholar of counseling and human services, appointed to the American Psychological Association's Commission on Accreditation. This is the body that approves accreditation for all psychology programs in the United States.
ERICA WOODS-WARRIOR, program director with the Student Success Center, appointed on Dec. 27 by then Gov. Bob McDonnell to the Virginia Fair Housing Board. She was also chosen to be a member of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership's Political Leaders Program Class of 2014. Housed at the University of Virginia, the institute prepares the commonwealth's emerging leaders for public service as candidates for office, government officials and citizen activists in the affairs of their communities, the commonwealth of Virginia and the nation. This is accomplished through educational programs designed around ethics, public policy and practical politics.
AWARDS
NANCY KLEIN, associate professor of music, the Vianne B. Vance Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Cultural Life of Greater Hampton Roads. This is typically called the ALLI Award, and is the highest honor bestowed on an individual by the Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads. She is also being included in the publication "Who's Who in America, 2014," through the Marquis Who's Who Professional Publications.
DREW LANDMAN, professor of aerospace engineering, the Technical Standards Board Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes individuals for outstanding service in the technical committee activities of SAE International.
CYNTHIA POLLOCK, personnel technician for Facilities Management, a certificate of appreciation for her work coordinating the area's annual toy drive. She has coordinated the annual drive for the past 10 years. (In the 2013 drive, four bikes were collected as well as seven boxes of gifts, all of which were given to homeless children living in Union Mission shelters.)

CRAIG BAYSE, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, and Julia Brumaghim, Clemson University, editors, an ebook (hard copy to be published this summer), "Biochalcogen Chemistry: The Biological Chemistry of Sulfur, Selenium, and Tellurium" (ACS Publications).
SHUIWANG JI, assistant professor of computer science, "Multi-Label Dimensionality Reduction" (CRC Press). Co-authors are Liang Sun (lead), a scientist in the R&D of Opera Solutions, and Jieping Ye, associate professor of computer science and engineering at Arizona State University.
LUCINDA RUSH, education reference librarian, co-editor and contributor to "Ender's Game and Philosophy" (Open Court Publishing).
BARRY MILLER, director of the Peninsula Higher Education Center, a textbook (2nd edition but new publisher), "Sports and Fitness Nutrition" (Kendall Hunt Publishing). Co-authors are Robert Wildman (lead) and Colin Wilborn.
D.E. WITTKOWER, assistant professor of philosophy, co-editor of and contributor to "Ender's Game and Philosophy" (Open Court Publishing).
