2013-14 Undergraduate Conference Travel Grants

Now Accepting Applications

The Undergraduate Student Travel Award was established to support undergraduate students' travel to local, regional, national and international conferences sponsored by professional organizations for the purpose of reporting the results of their research, exhibiting or performing creative works, disseminating results of their scholarly activity, or attending in order to further their education. Virginia Academy of Science 2013 Fall Undergraduate Research Grants

Application Deadline: October 4, 2013

The VAS Fall Undergraduate Research Meeting will be held on October 26th 2013 at the Parham Road Campus of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Richmond VA. At the conclusion of this meeting, five $500 research grants will be awarded to undergraduate students to support their research during the 2013-14 academic year.

In order to be eligible for research award, the student(s) must submit an application electronically to dscrosby@vsu.edu by October 4, 2013. The application for the Undergraduate Research Grant and additional meeting information is attached and is also available on the Virginia Academy of Science web site here.

The faculty mentor for the project must be a member in good standing of the Virginia Academy of Science (i.e., paid 2013 dues) by the October 4th deadline for submission of the grant application. All applicants are required to attend the VSA Fall Undergraduate Research Meeting and present a poster outlining their proposed research. Both the research proposal and the poster presentation will be evaluated to determine the recipients of the research grants. The grant recipients will be awarded student membership in the Virginia Academy of Science for 2013 and will be expected to present the results of their research at the VAS Annual Meeting in May 2014.

Spring 2014 Undergraduate Research Grants

This program provides a $1500 grant for undergraduates conducting original research, scholarship, or creative work under the mentorship of a full-time faculty member. This program is open to all ODU juniors and seniors with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. (link to application)

Student Research Grants for NASA related research

Virginia Space Grant Consortium Announces (VSGC) 2013-2014 Scholarship and Fellowship Opportunities! Visit http://www.vsgc.odu.edu/sf/undergrad/ for more info.

VSGC awards over $325,000 in scholarships and fellowships to students attending Virginia Space Grant member institutions and majoring in a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) field. Research proposals from students majoring in any STEM field and working on a project that supports NASA's mission are welcomed. VSGC can assist students and faculty in identifying research projects and connecting to NASA.

The Undergraduate STEM Research Scholarship Program provides a one-year scholarship of up to $8,500 to support undergraduate students actively engaged in a research project with a faculty mentor.

The Teacher Education STEM Scholarship Program provides $1,000 awards to students majoring in a teacher education preparation program and demonstrating an interest in teaching in a STEM field. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply.

The VSGC is especially seeking applications from underrepresented minorities, females, and persons with disabilities.

Summer 2014 Undergraduate Research Fellowships

This program provides a $2500 grant for undergraduates conducting original research, scholarship, or creative work under the mentorship of a full-time faculty member during the summer. This program is open to all rising ODU juniors and seniors with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. (link to application)

2013-2014 Essential Supplies/Equipment Grants for Honors College Students

Honors College students may apply for up to $300 to offset the costs of equipment and supplies for the completion of research related to a research apprenticeship, honors contract course, or a senior honors thesis/project. (link to application)
