Announcement of Public Dissertation Defense - Samuel Kovacic

The Engineering Management and Systems Engineering (EMSE) department would like to extend an open invitation to the public dissertation defense for the Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Management candidate, Samuel Kovacic.

Mr. Kovacic will be presenting his research on the "Micro to Macro Dynamics of Shared Awareness Emergence", as it applies to Situations Theory. This work stems from nearly a decade of [ongoing] research conducted on problems related to collaboration, integrated operations, interoperability, and jointness between entities with differing perspectives, models, belief systems, etc. The study follows a rationalist/theoretical approach. The context on which the micro-macro dynamics are formulated is defined by percolation theory.  The interactions [and rules] governing the formation of shared awareness are modeled using Agent Based Modeling.

The defense will be held on July 12, 2013 at 10:00 am. Mr. Kovacic will be presenting from Kaufman Hall, room 239. The presentation will be made available via Adobe Connect ( for overflow attendance, and for those individuals that may not be able to make it to the Norfolk campus. Participation via Adobe Connect may be restricted/moderated with a limit placed on questions asked.
