Publications Office Designers Win Awards in National Competition


Old Dominion University's Office of University Publications received four prestigious "silver" Awards of Distinction in the 2013 Communicator Awards, a national competition that honors groundbreaking work from agencies and companies across the United States.

In the category of Marketing and Promotion: Design, publications specialist Shara Weber received an Award of Distinction for the Parent and Family Calendar.

In the Brochure: Overall Design category, Weber also won an Award of Distinction for the 2012 Fall Arts@ODU preview guide, and publications specialist Sharon Lomax won an Award of Distinction for the 2012 Old Dominion University Preview Guide.

For Magazine: Overall Design, Karen Smallets, assistant director of university publications, received an Award of Distinction for her design of Monarch Magazine.

University Publications is ODU's in-house design office that produces materials to support and advance the image and brand of the university. Its services are available at no charge to ODU departments and offices.

Founded nearly two decades ago, The Communicator Awards receives more than 6,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest award competitions of its kind in the world.

The Communicator Awards is sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of Visual Arts, an invitation-only group consisting of top-tier professionals from acclaimed media, communications, advertising, creative and marketing firms.

The Award of Distinction is presented for projects that exceed industry standards in quality and achievement.
