Native American Heritage Month

During November, the University pays tribute to Native American heritage. Past heritage months have included guest speakers such as author Danielle Moretti-Langholts, Ph.D., and Qwo-Li Driskill, Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Texas A&M University. Other programs have included a trading post, historical presentations and discussions by the Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia, and a performance by the Red Sky Dancers. ODU Native American Heritage month events extend to the surrounding Hampton Roads area and reflect the contributions Native Americans and their impact on our society. In 2012, the Office of Intercultural Relations collaborated with the Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia, Inc., to host a fair that celebrated the Native American culture with demonstrations, presentations, educational displays and interactive activities.
