How to Join

Find out how you can join one of ODU's many fraternity or sorority chapters and start getting involved in the campus and community.

Since 1966, fraternities and sororities have been a part of tradition and campus life at ODU. Fraternity and sorority members are very active on campus serving in leadership roles, on athletic teams, and giving back to both the campus and local community through service and philanthropy.

Old Dominion University is currently home to 10 sororities and 18 fraternities. Each chapter is unique and offers an amazing experience of brotherhood and sisterhood that is unmatched by any other student organization. ODU fraternity and sorority members strive for high academic excellence and provide scholastic assistance to their members through tutoring, academic coaching, scholarships and awards. Our Greek lettered organizations are actively involved in community service events, including the annual university service event, Relay for Life. Both on the campus and in the Hampton Roads community, ODU Greek members are committed to serving others and giving back.

The fraternity and sorority experience is designed to develop leadership skills valued long after college. Fraternity and sorority life contributes to the development of social skills, interpersonal relations, communication skills, time management and self-confidence. It's also a lot of fun!

Scholarship

Fraternity and Sorority chapters strive for the development of academic excellence among their entire membership. To assure that members are academically successful, chapters provide tutoring, study halls, awards and scholarships.

Leadership

Fraternity and Sorority life offers a variety of leadership opportunities as well as the opportunity to build leadership skills essential to the character one needs in life after college.

Friendship

Fraternities and sororities build a bond of brotherhood and sisterhood unmatched by any other student organization. Each chapter has its own social calendar, which typically includes formals, brotherhood/sisterhood events, and chapter retreats. Some of these social events are Fraternity and Sorority Life community events, which include Greek Week, diversity workshops, athletic events, and alcohol awareness speakers. Each chapter follows a risk management policy from its headquarters as well as the rules and regulations of ODU.

Service

Service to the community is considered a top priority at Old Dominion University. In addition to community service, chapters sponsor a variety of philanthropic events for both national and local charities. Service is a milestone in the development of leaders and that is why service is one of the pillars we follow in Fraternity and Sorority Life.
