On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University, I am pleased to welcome you to one of the most exciting times in the history of our College.
In June 2014, the University's Board of Visitors formally approved our renaming as the Strome College of Business (SCB) in recognition of a $10 million donation to the University by Mark and Tammy Strome. The Stromes also made an additional gift of $1 million to the University in support of a new, multipronged program to nurture entrepreneurs. The Strome Family Foundation, administered by the Stromes, invested in the creation of a university-wide entrepreneurial ecosystem, covering academics, student entrepreneurs, and economic development. The SCB is undergoing a transformation, with entrepreneurship being incorporated into many facets of the curriculum and the creation of new offerings such as a fully-online MBA program.
Although our name is new, our mission remains focused on student success and performing relevant and impactful research. SCB strives to prepare students, in a global context, both professionally and ethically, for successful careers in the business, government, and non-profit sectors. We have a diverse team of faculty and staff who are passionate about ensuring the success of our students. We are proud of our network of outstanding alumni who give generously of their time and talents to mentor and support our students; and provide internships, field projects, service learning, and other opportunities to expand learned beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
Our graduate and undergraduate business programs are accredited by the hallmark of excellence in management education, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. This designation places the School among the top five percent of business programs in the world. Additionally, our Accounting Program has earned separate AACSB accreditation. In the past year, SCB has received recognition as a "Best for Vets Business School," earned Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards recognition for our Personal Financial Planning major; and earned global accreditation for our Graduate Certificate in Public Procurement and Contract Management. The immense and diverse expertise of SCB's faculty is one of our greatest resources and their work impacts business, industry, and government regionally, nationally, and globally.
As Interim Dean for the coming year, my primary goals are to better showcase what the Strome College of Business faculty can do to help grow the regional economy and to enhance and expand initiatives that foster the success of our students.
