About the College

The Darden College of Education (DCOE) houses 43 Virginia Board of Education-approved educator preparation programs, which received full accreditation by NCATE in 2011. DCOE also offers undergraduate and graduate non-educator preparation programs in counseling; educational leadership; exercise science; higher education; human services; instructional design and technology; occupational and technical studies; park, recreation and tourism studies; speech pathology and audiology; and sport management.

To offer innovative programs, the College cooperates with the College of Sciences and the College of Arts and Letters to provide a wide array of teacher education programs including mathematics, science, technology, fashion merchandising and marketing. The Military Career Transition Program offers master's degrees with initial licensure to military members and their spouses, and the Career Switcher Program provides an alternative pathway to teaching. The Children's Learning and Research Center and the ODU Speech and Hearing Clinic are also housed in the DCOE.
