Graduate Administration Workshop

Synopsis of the Program:

The Graduate Administration Workshop provides the opportunity for the Office of Graduate Studies to convey information relating to new and/or changing policies and procedures as they relate to graduate program administration. It also allows graduate program directors, faculty, and staff to ask questions and address issues related to their graduate program.

When is it offered?

Once a year during the fall semester.

Who should attend?

Associate Deans, Graduate Program Directors and Coordinators, and graduate program administration staff.

Graduate Research Achievement Day

Synopsis of the Program:

The Graduate Research Achievement Day gives graduate students the opportunity to share their research, through poster presentations, with the campus community.

When is it offered?

Once a year during the spring semester.

Who should participate?

Any master's or doctoral student may be nominated.

Graduate Teaching Assistant Instructors Institute (GTAI) Institute

Synopsis of the Program:

The Graduate Teaching Instructors Institute is required for all master's and PhD students that will be working as Graduate Teaching Assistant Instructors. GTAI certification is required before the GTA is approved to teach. It is a two day program. The first day includes an overview of University policies and procedures and University services, as well as a panel discussion with current graduate teaching assistants. Students are given a Teaching Handbook and other resource materials. The second day is conducted by the Colleges and requires an oral presentation by the prospective graduate teaching assistant instructors.

When is it offered?

Twice a year, at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

How to Register?

Students are to be registered for the Institute by their Graduate Program Director.

New Graduate Student Orientation

Synopsis of the Program:

New Graduate Student Orientation is designed to help acclimate students to Old Dominion University. The program begins with a meet and greet session with faculty. Information is provided regarding University policies and procedures, services, and resources that are available. There is also a panel discussion where students can ask questions of existing graduate students about their experiences at Old Dominion University.

When is it offered?

Twice a year, at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

Who should attend?

All new graduate students
