Shelley Mishoe

This is an exciting time to lead the College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University! It is a privilege to serve as Dean and have the opportunity to work with such a distinguished group of faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The College of Health Sciences is committed to excellence and innovation in education, research and service. The college has and will continue to prepare outstanding health professionals for workforce needs in the region and conduct research for the advancement of health, wellness and the professions at this critical time in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation and the world. The college has established national and international prominence in the disciplines of the college through research and preparation of outstanding health and public health professionals who are leaders in their disciplines and communities.

Located on the main campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, at several distant sites and online, the College's concentration on health sciences education and research offers students and faculty a rich environment for learning, discovering and caring. The College of Health Sciences includes the Schools of Community and Environmental Health, Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory and Radiation Sciences, Nursing and Physical Therapy. Our programs have added cultural perspectives, international practicum experiences, advanced technology and eHealth emphases to course offerings that further enhance the student learning experience and prepare students to meet the challenging needs of diverse clients at home and globally.

Our interdisciplinary research continues to reflect the collaborative approach valued within the College of Health Sciences. Researchers from various disciplines are working together to create innovative solutions to healthcare problems. Problem solving extends to our metropolitan community and service to our citizens continues to be a priority. Providing health care and service learning are important for our students to develop caring attitudes and health care competencies using best practices and evidenced-based approaches.

We recognize that success comes from the fusion of ideas learned in the classroom and applied in real-world experiences. Our students, faculty, alumni, and community partners are working together to achieve ambitious goals and educate world class health care leaders of the future.
