Nicki Parrott is an internationally acclaimed bassist and recipient of a grant fromt he Australia Council for the Arts. This allowed her to travel to the U.S. to study with her mentor, Rufus Reid, one of the world's premier double bassists. A world-class double bassist and an emerging singer/songwriter, Parrott was nominated for the Australian Young Achievers Award. She performs regularly at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with the legendary guitarist and inventor, Les Paul. Parrott has consistently performed bass with world-renowned jazz musicians. She also toured Australia with Russian musicians Daniel Kramer and Alexander Fischer, playing sold-out shows across the country, followed by successful tours with American trumpeters Bobby Shew and Chuck Findley. "Nicki brings clear articulation, beautiful tone, a sense of rhythmic assuredness and a touch of allure to inventive arrangements." --Jazz Times "... at the risk of betraying a certain male penchant I can't help noting that Parrott is the other lady bassist singer around these days whose beauty matches her musicianship." -- Downbeat Magazine "...a rarity, a first-class bassist who?s playing is as sublime as her vocals." --Limelight // Tickets available at http://oduartstix.universitytickets.com // An endowment established at the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, made possible by a generous gift from Mr. and Mrs. F.
