Transfer Students

Students who transfer to ODU during the 2013-14 academic year as a sophomore, junior, or senior and who want to become secondary math and science teachers may find that completing the MonarchTeach program can delay their graduation date significantly. While you may enter the program in Fall 2013 or later, you should be aware of the planned implementation schedule for MonarchTeach courses and the delays it may cause in your academic plans.

You may still choose to take Step 1 and Step 2 to gain classroom experience even if you decide not to continue with the MonarchTeach program. In addition, the experience of preparing and teaching lessons will benefit you in later courses. Please note though that the credits you earn for Step 1 and Step 2 will not satisfy course requirements in the current math and science Teacher Preparation programs, but they may help you decide if you really do want to teach.

As always, discuss your degree plan with your academic advisor in your department. You will also need to contact the advisors in Teacher Education Services to discuss your plans to take either the professional core courses presently being offered or the MonarchTeach courses under development.
