Philippines Relief Efforts
On November 8, Typhoon Haiyan, considered the most powerful storm to ever make landfall, struck the Philippines. The current death toll is estimated to be over 10,000 people. An additional 12 million people are at risk due the continued impact of the storm. In response, the Office of Community Engagement is encouraging anyone able in the university community to send monetary donations to a relief agency. For a list of agencies currently accepting donations, please visit:
Please keep in mind the following tips when considering where to donate your money:
Choose a well established agency that has done previous work in the Philippines and/or disaster torn areas.
Avoid telemarketers and email solicitations.
Seek out a charity's official website and donate directly.
Designate your gift to ensure that it goes where you want it to go.

According to information received by the Office of Community Engagement there are currently no local/national agencies that are accepting USED clothing and/or canned goods. Additionally, no unskilled labor is currently needed. Nurses or physicians, especially those with trauma experience, can contact the International Medical Corps (http://www.imcworldwide.org/Page.aspx?pid=183) to offer their services.
