ODU’s Dennis Gregory Wins NASPA Award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs Through Teaching

Dennis Gregory, associate professor of educational foundations and leadership at Old Dominion University, was selected by the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) Region III Nominations & Awards Committee for the Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs through Teaching Award.

NASPA, a national organization that serves as the professional home for the field of student affairs, is dedicated to integrity, innovation, inclusion and inquiry. Gregory's award signifies that his student affairs colleagues value his dedicated service, consistent advocacy and outstanding contributions to developing new student affairs professionals. This award will be presented at the awards luncheon during NASPA Region III's Summer Symposium on June 13.

The NASPA award adds to Gregory's list of recognitions, including his 2014 Fulbright Fellowship. He recently returned from a lecture series in South Africa. He has established a worldwide professional network, and his experience in higher education ranges from community colleges to large public universities. Gregory's specialties include higher education law, student affairs and education abroad.

Melanie Graham, a Ph.D. student of Gregory's, was not surprised by his latest award.

"Dr. Gregory embodies all the qualities of an educator dedicated to learning and growth by issuing challenges and encouraging critical thinking," she said. "Dr. Gregory's lived experiences and extensive knowledge surrounding higher education is what makes him outstanding. I am lucky to learn from him."
