Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:
On behalf of Old Dominion University, please accept our sincere appreciation for your responsiveness to the campus alerts that were issued this afternoon. The alerts were sent by the ODU Police Department as a proactive measure due to an off-campus incident.
An additional update was shared on the University's social media accounts as the ODU Police Department continued its work and later issued an all clear in collaboration with the City of Norfolk Police Department, which was the responding entity and lead investigator in this matter. With the city's primary role and the institution's secondary role on this incident, it is still our duty and obligation to share information in real time.
Therefore, it is very important to provide the initial notice and regular updates requesting caution by members of our campus community. Please know that the safety and security of all Monarchs and the broader community are something that we take very seriously!
