Brown selected Fellow by National Academy of Public Administration

Old Dominion University today announced that Professor Samuel L. Brown has been selected by the National Academy of Public Administration for inclusion in its 2022 Class of Academy Fellows, in recognition of his years of public administration service and expertise.

"I am honored to join this distinguished group of Fellows at the National Academy of Public Administration. I am looking forward to working with stakeholders to address current and emerging issues by developing strategies, performing organizational assessments, strengthening collaborations, and invoking information technology to ensure social equity while serving clients at all levels of government across the United States and the world," said Samuel L. Brown, Professor and Chair of the School of Public Service at Old Dominion University.

Brown is an award-winning educator and researcher who offers more than 20 years of experience in the teaching of Public Administration. He currently serves as professor and chair of the School of Public Service at Old Dominion University's Strome College of Business. He earned a doctorate in public policy from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, a master's in business administration from the University of Baltimore and a bachelor's in economics from Towson State University.

In addition to teaching, Brown's extensive background includes numerous publications in international journals, research and grant awards, frequent presentations at conferences worldwide and service on boards and committees. Prior to his academic career he served in positions with the private sector, as well as in state and federal government.

"I am very pleased to welcome Samuel L. Brown to the Academy's 2022 class of Fellows. Our distinguished Academy Fellows are nationally recognized and respected for their expertise in the field of public administration and Samuel L. Brown is no exception," said Terry Gerton, President and CEO of the Academy. "We proudly welcome this outstanding new class of Fellows that will help advance the Academy vision - a just, fair, and inclusive government that strengthens communities and protects democracy."

Selection of the Academy's new Fellows follows a rigorous review of the individual's contributions to the field of public administration and policy. A Fellows Nominating Committee makes its recommendations to the full Fellowship, which then votes on those individuals to be elected. The 2022 class joins more than 950 Academy Fellows -- including former cabinet officers, members of Congress, governors, mayors and state legislators, as well as prominent scholars, business executives, and public administrators.

Induction of the new Fellows will occur during the annual Academy Fall Meeting, which will take place virtually and in-person November 2-4 at three host sites (Academy headquarters in Washington, D.C., Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, and University of Connecticut in Hartford, CT), with a focus on "Strengthening Social and Economic Development Through Meaningful Work."
