The Darden College of Education at Old Dominion University will offer a new graduate certificate program in Community College Leadership.

Housed within the department of Educational Foundations and Leadership, the program will grant a State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) approved graduate certificate. It is designed for the professional development of community college leaders, including academic and non-academic administrators and teaching faculty. The certificate allows working professionals to stay in their job as they earn a high-quality credential from a nationally-recognized Community College Leadership program. Students may take certificate courses in the evenings via a live, interactive, video format.

According to Dr. Chris Glass, assistant professor and graduate program director for the Higher Education and Community College Leadership programs, "the addition of this certificate marks a significant milestone that helps Old Dominion University partner with community colleges across the country to build and strengthen their leadership pipelines."

The 15-credit-hour program offers courses in community college politics, policy and advocacy; community college leadership; community college finance, fundraising and resource management; community college curriculum, program development and quality assurance; and an internship experience. "Our faculty members continue to raise the standards for the Darden College of Education," said Dr. Steve Myran, department chair for the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership. "We are very excited to add this certificate to our successful Community College Leadership program, and appreciate the support from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in helping the University address the needs of our students."

Educational Foundations and Leadership, one of six academic departments within the Darden College of Education, offers graduate degrees to prepare professionals for the fields of education psychology and program evaluation, PK-12 educational leadership, higher education, and community college leadership.
