March 25, 2013
The Old Dominion University music department will host a performance showcase on April 5 as a benefit to assist with funding the 75th season of Portsmouth Community Concerts Inc.
The 7:30 p.m. concert at Willett Hall will feature large and small performance groups, including: the ODU Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Brass Ensemble.
Willett Hall is located at 3701 Willett Drive, in Portsmouth. The 2,000-seat entertainment facility has outstanding acoustics and regularly features concerts, guest speakers, theatrical performances, musicals and dance performances.
Portsmouth Community Concerts Inc. (PCCI) is one of the oldest community concert series in the country. Formed in 1938, the organization has a stated mission of promoting "appreciation for the performing arts by presenting a series of diverse concerts by professional artists from the nation and the world and by providing educational opportunities to students."
More information about PCCI is available at portsmouthcommunityconcerts.com.
Sally C. Wright, director of ODU's Community Music Division and PCCI's Artistic Selection Committee chairwoman, said the April 5 performance serves not only as a fundraiser for PCCI, but also provides an opportunity for ODU music students to perform in a large concert hall.
Ticket prices for the ODU performance are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Group rates are available.
