Office of Research Holding Programs to Promote Grant Proposals

The Old Dominion University Office of Research is sponsoring two programs this week for researchers at the university who are interested in how to obtain National Science Foundation (NSF) grants and how indirect costs are assessed on grants that are awarded.

"NSF Grant Proposals" will be presented Tuesday, Jan. 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Learning Commons Room 1310-11. Presenters will be Steve Landowne, the College of Sciences proposal development specialist, and Karina Arcaute, Batten College of Engineering and Technology proposal development specialist.

Attendees will get information on navigating the NSF website, requesting funded proposals and communicating with program officers. The NSF Grant Proposal Guide, merit review criteria and proposal sections will be discussed. Presenters also will provide information about ODU's research proposal submission process.

Registration is required at http://fs25.formsite.com/researchdev/form21/index.html.

"Faculty Forum on Indirect Costs" will be presented Thursday, June 30, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Hampton and Newport News Rooms of Webb Center. Rodger Harvey, acting vice president for research, will lead the session and answer questions.

This program is for investigators who want to know the difference between direct and indirect costs, what gets included in the facilities and administrative rate, if every grant gets charged indirect costs, how the university uses the money and how funds get distributed.

Registration is required at http://fs25.formsite.com/researchdev/form19/index.html.
