“Verve” Exhibit comes alive at ODU Virginia Beach

The Visual & Performing Arts Academy (VPAA), of the Virginia Beach public school system, is bringing their thought-provoking exhibit "Verve" to Old Dominion University, Virginia Beach.

"Verve" introduces visitors to the visual talents and thoughts of the academy's youth. Through their work, students express thoughts and feelings "that they find hard to describe in words." Each artwork created by the seniors in the Visual Arts program is the result of a semester's worth of in-depth exploration of chosen topics, many of which are deeply personal. Such is the work of Christina Sadovnikov, who lost her mother at a very young age, and produced a piece of art that expresses the moment when her mother passed way. Her mixed media installation shows the passage of time and energy in a way that monumentalizes the moment as it will always be in her memory.

The Visual and Performing Arts Academy students are led by the VPAA Lead Visual Arts Teacher Erin Balch Richburg. A graduate of ODU, Richburg was named Salem High School's Teacher of the Year in 2014.

There will be 20 works on display in the Atrium at ODU Virginia Beach during the exhibit.

Due to snow complications, the date for the ODU Virginia Beach reception for the Virginia Beach Visual and Performing Arts Academy's art exhibit "Verve", will now be held as the Closing Reception on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 5:00 - 6:30p.m.

The exhibit will now hang through March 18.
