Jazz Vocalist Kenny Washington Holds Concert, Open Rehearsals at Old Dominion

Internationally acclaimed vocalist Kenny Washington will conduct a jazz residency April 14 to 18 at Old Dominion University. The residency will include free clinics and rehearsals that are open to the public.
Washington will close his week at Old Dominion with a concert accompanied by the John Toomey Trio. Toomey is the outgoing chair of Old Dominion's Department of Music.
The concert will be April 18, 8 p.m., at the Chandler Recital Hall in the Diehn Center for the Perfoming Arts.

Washington will conduct a free jazz clinic April 14 at 3 p.m. followed by a 4:30 p.m. open rehearsal with the ODU Jazz Orchestra. On April 15, he will hold a clinic at 10 a.m. and a 1 p.m. rehearsal with the ODU Jazz Choir.
And on April 17, Washington will rehearse with the jazz choir and orchestra at 4 p.m.
Washington, a native of New Orleans, is a popular performer in his home in the San Francisco Bay area, where the San Francisco Chronicle called him "Superman of the Bay Area jazz scene."
Formerly a singer with the U.S. Navy Band, Washington has appeared off-Broadway with Elvis Costello and Deborah Harry, and he was featured vocalist at San Francisco's famous InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel's "Top of the Mark."
Washington also was featured vocalist on saxophonist Michael O'Neill's records "The Long and the Short of It" and "Still Dancin'." Washington also is a featured vocalist on the Slammin' All Body Band CD with Keith Terry.
