National Library Week Celebrated at Old Dominion University April 11-15

The Old Dominion University Libraries will host a series of events in recognition of the facilities' key role on the University campus during National Library Week, from April 11-15.
Events will include a poetry slam on April 14, an art therapy table for stressed students and a "bucket list" contest for faculty, staff and students. As well, University Libraries' gifts and snacks will be available all week at pop-up library locations in Webb Center, Borjo and the Child Development Center.
The National Libraries Week events are designed to spotlight the learning, research and teaching support the three campus facilities provide for faculty, staff and students of Old Dominion University.
In the University's campus libraries, activity tables will be available, where students, staff and faculty can sign the America Library Association Declaration for the Right to Libraries. Students can also de-stress before final exams at the art therapy table.
At pop-up library locations, visitors can check out books, get Old Dominion Libraries prizes and snacks, courtesy of Monarch Dining.
The bucket list competition challenges students to complete University Libraries-themed tasks such as taking a picture of the ODU85 exhibit and tagging the University Libraries on social media; signing the Declaration of the Right to Libraries; and finding out who their subject librarian is and emailing them to say hello.

National Library Week is celebrated annually and sponsored by the American Library Association. The theme for 2016 is Libraries Transform.
Designed to increase public awareness of the value, impact and services provided by libraries and library professionals, the Libraries Transform campaign will showcase the transformative nature of today's libraries and elevating the critical role libraries play in the digital age. The Old Dominion University Libraries is comprised of the Patricia W. and J. Douglas Perry Library, the F. Ludwig Diehn Composers Room, and the Elise N. Hofheimer Art Library.
Perry Library is home to most of the Old Dominion University Libraries' collections and services. It was opened in its present location off 43rd street in 1976, with a major addition and renovation completed in February 1998. It was renamed the Patricia W. and J. Douglas Perry Library and was dedicated on April 15, 1999. In 2011 a Learning Commons opened on the first floor.
Additionally, the Perry Library contains the Special Collections Department which includes the University Archives, Manuscripts, and books and printed material relating to Virginia and Tidewater History.
