President John Broderick to Deliver ODU State of the University Address Aug. 24

Old Dominion President John R. Broderick will deliver his annual State of the University address before what is expected to be a capacity crowd at 8 a.m. Aug. 24 in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
President Broderick will speak about the University's recent successes and future initiatives.
In 2010, the format of President Broderick's State of the University Address was transformed into a breakfast gathering at the Ted Constant Center. Now the annual event attracts more than 1,200 political, business and community leaders, as well as many Old Dominion faculty and staff.
The doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for registration, with breakfast starting promptly at 8 a.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive prior to 8 a.m. and bring a non-perishable food item to support the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

President Broderick has served as the eighth president of Old Dominion University since 2008.
In that role, he guides the University's seven colleges, more than 10 economic development and research centers, and numerous partnerships with government, military and business organizations and agencies. He was recently ranked sixth on the Inside Business "Power List," an annual list of the most influential figures in Hampton Roads.
President Broderick oversees an operating budget in excess of $526 million and more than 3,000 faculty and staff members. During his presidency, the University has received more than half-a-billion dollars in new resources while an ambitious master plan and two strategic plans were completed to guide its growth over the coming years.
He has been credited with establishing the University's Center for the Study of Sea Level Rise, the Strome Entrepreneurial Center and a comprehensive student success model that has led to increasing retention and graduation rates. Under his leadership, Old Dominion ranks second in Virginia in the percentage of degrees awarded in STEM-H fields. He also recently secured a $35 million gift for the construction of The Barry Art Museum and nearly $150 million for chemistry and health sciences facilities.
In addition, President Broderick recently completed his second year as chair of the Council of Presidents for Virginia's public colleges and universities and is the only college president on the Virginia Space Flight Authority. He also currently serves on several NCAA committees and chairs the Conference USA Board of Directors.
