Homecoming 2017: A Week of Celebration

Homecoming weekend is still a few days away, but the Monarch community will have the opportunity to get started early with activities being held throughout the week.

The annual fall celebration, which has been ongoing since the 1960s when it started as a single-day event, starts this week and runs through Saturday, Nov. 4, when the Old Dominion University Monarch football team meets the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (49ers) at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.

ODU family, friends and fans can get in on the Homecoming festivities with these events:

MONDAY, OCT. 30

Paint the Town Blue, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at various locations on campus.

Homecoming Launch Party, 7-11 p.m. in North Cafeteria, Webb Center: Co-sponsored with Success Without Limitations. Free tickets available at the Webb Information Desk in advance of the event.

TUESDAY, OCT. 31

Car Smash and Paw the Pavement, 11-2 p.m. on Kaufman Mall: Participants will smash a car painted in Charlotte colors to raise scholarship money.

A lively activity hour presentation will include the homecoming court, contest winners, Big Blue and a performance by ODU Cheer and Dance in the North Cafeteria, Webb Center.

'The Premiere' Fashion Show, 7-9 p.m. in North Cafeteria, Webb Center: An event full of ODU spirit and fun. There will be novelties, giveaways, amusements and more.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 1

The Royal Court Homecoming Basketball Tournament, 6 p.m., in the Student Recreation Center.

Homecoming Comedy Show, 8 p.m., in North Cafeteria, Webb Center: Pick up free tickets at the Webb Information Desk to see Donnelle Rawlings and Lav Luv.

THURSDAY, NOV. 2

Monarch Day, 12-4 p.m. on Kaufman Mall: Enjoy an event full of ODU spirit & fun. There will be novelties, giveaways, amusements and more.

A lively activity hour presentation will include the homecoming court, contest winners, Big Blue and a performance by ODU Cheer and Dance.

Alumni Honors Dinner, 6:00 p.m. at the Hilton Norfolk The Main.

FRIDAY, NOV. 3

Dodgeball Tournament, 2-5 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center: Halloween costume-themed dodgeball tournament.

Alumni Welcome Back Social, 3-5 p.m. in the Barry M. Kornblau Alumni Center. The event is complimentary and open to all alumni and their guests. Register at www.odualumni.org/homecoming17.

BAC Social, 6-9 p.m., at Baxter's Lounge, 500 Granby Street. A portion of the night's proceeds will be donated to the RL Horne Scholarship. Register at www.odualumni.org/homecoming17.

Homecoming Concert featuring Ft. 21 Savage, 8 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center: Tickets are available for purchase at the Webb Information Desk, Ted Constant Center box office, or ynottix.com.

Alumni Webb Jam, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., Webb Center, presented by the Old Dominion University Black Alumni Chapter and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. This event is not open to current students. Register at www.odualumni.org/homecoming17.

SATURDAY, NOV. 4

Homecoming Parade, 11 a.m. start at 49th St. and Hampton Boulevard: Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy the 2017 Homecoming parade.

ODU vs. Charlotte Football Game, 3:30 p.m., Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium

NPHC Homecoming Reunion, noon-7 p.m., on the Williamsburg Lawn. Register at www.odualumni.org/homecoming17.

Alumni Tailgate Tent, 12:30-3 p.m., on Kaufman Mall. Tailgate packages are available at www.odualumni.org/football17.

ODU vs. UNC-Charlotte Football Game, 3:30 p.m., at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.
