Charitable Campaign Update: More Than half of University Goal Raised

By Jon Cawley

As the final stretch nears in the annual Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC), Old Dominion faculty and staff have raised nearly 60 percent of the University's goal of $110,000.

To date, contributions to the CVC, which supports more than 1,000 charities, total $67,689.00.

The campaign runs through Dec. 18, however, the deadline for payroll deductions is Dec. 13.

Profile information on the charities involved in the campaign can be found on the CVC website.

As an incentive to faculty and staff who have not yet submitted pledge cards, the University is sponsoring a 2 for 2 offer for participants to receive men's and women's basketball game tickets. Faculty and staff members who donate $2 per pay period will be eligible to receive two tickets to either a men's or women's basketball game.

Tickets available through the offer may be used for the men's game against WKU on Thursday, Jan. 11 or the women's game against UTSA on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Participants who return pledge cards are also eligible for weekly drawings. Prizes include athletic tickets, Aramark vouchers, t-shirts and more.

Important to note: Donations made in 20217 directly to a charity that is enrolled in the CVC can still count toward the University's goal. This includes registration fees for 5k's, bike-a-thons and other charity events that include a registration fee. If the charity is enrolled in the CVC, the registration fee counts as a Direct Give for the campaign.

To count a Direct Give, provide a copy of the donation or registration receipt to department CVC coordinators. The University will send the CVC a special report that includes the Direct Gift and it will be documented toward the $110,000 goal. This helps the charity reach their minimum CVC designation to be eligible for participation next year.

For questions, to obtain a pledge card or for more information, see individual department coordinators for instructions. Contact Ebony Drayton in the Office of Community Engagement at edrayton@odu.edu or 683-5759 for assistance in identifying who the coordinators are in individual departments.
