Annual Madrigal Banquets Modeled on Revolutionary Theme

Old Dominion University's will host its 43rd annual Madrigal Banquets this weekend, providing the campus community and general public an opportunity to celebrate the winter holidays in Renaissance style.

The Madrigal Banquets are modeled after a traditional form of dinner theatre with music and food and a theme that focuses on specific regions of the country each year. This year's banquets are themed around the American Revolutionary War.

The banquets will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2 in the atrium of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $40 for the general public and $20 for ODU students and may be purchased online at the ODUArtstix website or at the Diehn box office until 6:40 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2.

The Madrigal Banquets include a full-course historical meal and music provided by the ODU Madrigal Singers, Collegium, Musicum and the Sacbut Ensemble.

The colonial cuisine-based menu includes:

  • 1st Course: Colonial Corn Chowder with house smoked apple wood bacon, new potatoes, and roasted corn;
  • Main Course: Roasted Stuffed Pork Loin with apples, quince, whole grain mustard, and an apple cider sauce. Served with a Barley Risotto, Roasted Fall Squash, and Braised Greens;
  • Dessert: Warm Caramel Bread Pudding topped with whipped cream.
