Longtime ODU Early Childhood Educator, Carol DeRolf, Dies

Carol V. DeRolf, a long-time instructor in Old Dominion University's Child Study Center, has died. She was 83.
DeRolf, who educated preschool children and ODU early childhood education students, worked from 1974 at the Child Study Center until retiring in 2011.
Kimberly Williamson, director of Old Dominion University's Children's Learning and Research Center added that, " Carol was an amazing, enthusiastic and dedicated preschool teacher. She will be remembered as one of the early pioneers who worked with Katherine Kersey in what is now called the Children's Learning and Research Center. She was a mentor, friend and colleague to countless families, children and teachers in the Hampton Roads area and beyond," she said.
The Darden College of Education presents its Carol V. DeRolf Early Childhood Education Award annual to the top graduating early childhood education student in the Department of Teaching and Learning.
Born in Kearney, Nebraska, received a bachelor of arts from Kearney State Teachers College, and an MS in education from Western Illinois University.
DeRolf was preceded in death by her husband John and son Jack. Survivors include her sons Dirk and wife Michele Bloodworth and Daniel DeRolf; three grandchildren, Ryan, Riley and Carys.
A memorial service was held in DeRolf's memory on Wednesday, April 12.
