ODU Cheerleading Set to Compete at NCA Championship

The Old Dominion University cheerleading team will participate in the National Cheerleaders Association Cheer and Dance Championship beginning April 6 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The championship began at 9 a.m. and will be streamed live on tv.varsity.com (subscription).

After cheering for the ODU Athletic teams throughout the season, this is the opportunity for the cheerleaders to compete on their own.

"We love that," Head Coach Carmen Harris said, when asked about competing. "We are so focused on everyone else, now for the first time in our year round season we can focus on ourselves."

Two years ago the team traveled to the NCA Cheer competition, but was done competing after day one. This time they feel more prepared.

"Two years ago was very beneficial for them. They've been there and down that now and have a completely different outlook on the competition," Harris said.
