Memorial Service for Steve Yetiv to be Held April 24

Old Dominion will hold an on-campus memorial service April 24 to honor the life of Steve Yetiv, the University's Louis I. Jaffe Professor of International Relations, who died March 21.

The 6 p.m. service will be held at Chandler Recital Hall in the Diehn Center for Fine and Performing Arts and will include remarks by Yetiv's brother Jack, and ODU President John R. Broderick.

Other featured speakers will include Jonathan Lieb and Glen Sussman, from the Department of Political Science and Geography; Regina Karp, from the Graduate Program in International Studies; and Betty Rose Facer, from the Department of World Languages and Cultures; as well as ODU Eminent Scholar Simon Serfaty and alumae of the Graduate Program in International Studies. A reception will follow in the Diehn Atrium.

Parking will be available in Garage E (levels 3-5) and Lot 26 (VIP) on 49th Street.

In addition to his academic work at the University, Yetiv's widely respected expertise on the global oil industry made him a popular interview subject for major media outlets around the world.

He was also a prolific author, writing or co-writing a number of books, including "Myths of the Oil Boom: American National Security in the Global Energy Market." That book earned him a guest spot on a 2015 British Broadcasting Corporation newscast, where he discussed Britain's bombing of eastern Syria oil fields controlled by the terror group ISIS.

Yetiv suffered a heart attack Feb. 25 and was treated at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A private funeral ceremony was held March 23.

For those who are unable to attend, the memorial service will be livestreamed on the internet.
