June 13, 2018
Unwanna B. Dabney, an executive in the transportation sector, has been appointed to Old Dominion University's Board of Visitors by Gov. Ralph Northam. Her four-year term will begin on July 1.
Dabney, who received her master's degree in public administration from Old Dominion, serves as senior manager of AECOM Technical Services.
Her career spans 20 years and also includes managerial positions at WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, the Federal Highway Administration and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Dabney received her bachelor's degree in civil engineering technology from South Carolina State University and her doctorate in public policy and administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is active in organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and The Links.
She succeeds Will Sessoms, the former mayor of Virginia Beach.
Northam also reappointed four members of Old Dominion's board: Rector Lisa Smith, former Rector Carlton Bennett, Jay Harris and Pamela Kirk, the board's secretary.
"We look forward to benefiting from Ms. Dabney's breadth of experience, and we appreciate Mayor Sessoms' service these past four years," Old Dominion University President John R. Broderick said. "We also welcome back our four returning members, who have provided strong leadership to the university."
