Slover Library Foundation has teamed up with ODU for a quarterly "Science Cafe!" Come hear from Physics Prof. Dr. Sebastian Kuhn explan Einstein's special and general theories of relativity in a way that everyone can understand. Dr. Sebastian Kuhn will be discussing a chapter he recently wrote for the book "Philosophy and Sailing". Einstein and Sailing discusses how something "esoteric" as Einstein's special and general theories of relativity have applications and analogies with the ancient art of sailing. (More)


Theoretical Nuclear/Hadronic Physics - Assistant Professor

The Department of Physics at Old Dominion University (ODU) and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) are seeking a theoretical physicist in the field of Quantum Chromodynamics and hadron and nuclear physics. The appointment is expected to be made at the tenure-track, Assistant Professor level with an anticipated start date of Fall 2017. (More)


SPS Pumpkin Drop

The ODU Society of Physics Students recently held its 18th annual pumpkin drop at the Batten Arts and Letters building. Participating teams tested their engineering abilities by constructing devices to prevent their pumpkins from being smashed after falling from the roof of the nine-story building. Slover Library Foundation has teamed up with ODU for a quarterly "Science Cafe!" Come hear from Physics Prof. Lawrence Weinstein, Old Dominion University, explain Guesstimation in a way that everyone can understand. We will have complimentary snacks and kid-friendly drinks during the talk. We will also have a cash bar with beer and wine for those 21 and up starting at 5:30 PM and open through the talk. Annual Physics Department Open House - 2016

The ODU Physics Department will be hosting its 4th Annual Open House on March 19th from 1:00-5:00 pm. We would like to invite anyone with an interest in science to come and have a good time. The event is free and open to the public. There will be full-dome planetarium shows, a hands-on demo room, a live demo show, lab tours, and more. (More)
