Rates Effective Summer 2019
This is the official site for Old Dominion University (ODU) tuition rates. Rates listed on this page are effective Summer 2019. Previous Tuition Rates remain in effect through Spring 2019.
The University term "tuition" refers to a per-credit-hour comprehensive rate that includes payment for instructional programs, academic services and activities, recreational sports, and intercollegiate athletics which includes a student activity fee of $121.69 per credit hour for Norfolk campus courses, $100.10 per credit hour for Higher Education Centers, Distance Learning, and online courses not at designated distance learning locations.

- There is no maximum tuition amount for students.
- All tuition charges are based on a per-credit-hour rate.
- Tuition rates are subject to change by the Board of Visitors (BOV) each Spring.

Active Duty Military Tuition Rates
Effective Fall 2018, a Military Tuition Rate is available for eligible undergraduate active duty military personnel enrolled in degree or non-degree seeking, for-credit courses offered on campus or online.

NOTE: Students who identify as active duty military on the admission application will have their active duty status verified by the Registrar's Office. If an eligible student does not receive the military tuition rate, they should email instate@odu.edu for assistance.

ODU will verify active-duty military status using the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act (SCRA) website. We must be able to verify that the student is on active-duty on the date verified and in one of the following Service Components: Army Active Duty; Coast Guard Active Duty; Air Force Active Duty; Marine Corps Active Duty; or Navy Active Duty. Please note that other Service Components, including Reserve and National Guard are not eligible for the reduced tuition rate.
Technology-Delivered Courses
Outside Virginia &/or the United States
Rate applicable to students enrolled in courses delivered via technology outside of Virginia and/or the United States.
NOTE: Distance Learning students who relocate to Virginia are not guaranteed the in-state tuition rate. Normal domicile rules apply.
If a student wishes to use Chapter 31 or Chapter 33:
The University will defer students' semester charges. These semester charges will be deferred a minimum of 90 days from the tuition deadline. Charges not covered by the VA must be paid by the tuition deadline to prevent penalty fees. Penalties will not be imposed on charges covered by the VA, but may be imposed on charges that are past due and not covered by the VA.
- Fall deferment ends: November 25th
- Spring deferment ends: April 10th
- Summer deferment ends: October 3rd

A technology fee will be charged to students taking technology delivered courses to cover the costs of providing these courses. |

| New Student Transition Fee - $75 |
The New Student Transition Fee will be assessed to all new degree-seeking, non-distance undergraduate students and covers orientation and other transition-to-college programming.
The fee will be included in the tuition billing statement and is due by tuition deadline. |

| General Services Fee - $9.00 | All students pay this fee each semester, regardless of the number of classes taken. This fee replaced the graduation fee, per course drop fees, reinstatement fees, matriculation fees, and the University Catalog fee. | Mandatory- Fees applicable to all students regardless of domiciliary classification. The Student Health Fee is mandatory for students meeting the criteria below:
Undergraduate students taking 6 or more credit hours must pay this fee each semester. Graduate students taking 6 or more credit hours must pay this fee each semester. The fee is not charged for students taking all off-campus courses. If any courses are officially designated as Norfolk Campus courses, then the fee is mandatory. |

| Transportation Fee - $59.00 Not charged in Summer Sessions |
The transportation fee is paid once each semester by all students. However, no fee is charged during the summer term. The fee is charged for students taking courses officially designated as Norfolk campus courses.
If any courses are officially designated as Norfolk campus courses, then the transportation fee is mandatory. |
Mandatory - Fees applicable to all students, including those enrolled in student teaching, dissertation, theses, and GRAD 999 unless otherwise noted. This fee is not charged in the summer. |

International Student Health Insurance (F & J Visa Holders) Fall (202210): $898.00 |
Health insurance charges are posted directly to the student's billing statement and are due on the tuition deadlines for the academic year. International students have the option of participating in the University's Payment Plan available in Fall and Spring semesters only. Fall Semester (Aug-Dec) $898.00 - charges due by Fall tuition deadline. Spring Semester & Summer (Jan-July) $1,256.00 - charges due by Spring tuition deadline. Non-credit students enrolled in the English Language Center Program will be charged based on the session. Tuition and fees for non-credit programs are due at the time of enrollment. |
