Education College's Horton-Parker Receives AADA President’s Mentor Award

Radha Horton-Parker

Radha Horton-Parker, associate professor of counseling and human services in the Darden College of Education, is this year's Association for Adult Development and Aging (AADA) President's Mentor Award recipient. Established in 1990, the award honors an inspirational teacher with significant ties to the field of adult development and aging.

Since 1992, Horton-Parker has taught master's and doctoral-level courses in the Department of Counseling and Human Services. Some of her areas of specialty include lifespan development, spirituality in counseling, adult issues and transitions, and counseling theories and techniques.

She served as the 2012-13 president for AADA and remains an active member of the association. In addition, she has published more than 30 articles and co-authored two books, "The Unfolding Life: Counseling Across the Lifespan" (with ODU colleague Nina Brown) and "Spirituality in Counseling and Psychotherapy" (with R.C. Fawcett).

The award was presented to Horton-Parker in absentia at this year's America Counseling Association (ACA) conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. She received a commemorative plaque and a letter of recognition. AADA is an ACA division whose focus is to advance the knowledge and skills required in serving adults across the lifespan. Members of AADA are composed of counselors, community service workers, legislators, family members and individuals interested in the needs and development of adults.
